Georgia’s ruling party candidate leads in presidential runoff

Preliminary results in Georgia’s presidential runoff show the ruling party-backed candidate Salome Zurabishvili is ahead with nearly 60 percent of the votes.

Wednesday’s runoff is the last time Georgians will be able to directly elect their head of state – as the president will be diminished in the country’s new parliamentary democracy.

Al Jazeera’s Robin Forestier-Walker reports from the capital, Tbilisi.
