Qatar National Day 2014 celebrations

Qatar National Day is the national commemoration of Qatar’s unification and independence and is celebrated on December 18 every year.

This day marks the historic date in 1878 when the nation’s founder, Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani, rallied the tribes of the peninsula into a unified people.

The holiday was formally established by a June 21, 2007 decree of the Father Emir and current Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani.

This festive holiday is intended to maintain a knowledge and appreciation of Qatar’s culture, heritage and to encourage pride among the Qatari citizens.

This year, Qatar National Day celebrations will be in full swing with the opening of Darb Al Saai festival ground located in Al Sadd.

There are a lot of activities happening in Doha starting today at Darb Al Saai. Qataris as well as expatriates are welcome to visit the ground and learn more about Qatar’s past and it’s culture.

Fireworks

Starting today, there will be 5 minute sessions of fireworks every night till December 18th from 7.30 pm to 7.35 pm. There will also be firework displays from the Darb Al Saai grounds in Al Sadd for those dreading the Corniche traffic.
